HEARTS BREAKER: Kenny Black

Friday August 29,2008

By Iain Macfarlane

AIRDRIE boss Kenny Black last night hailed his Cup heroes for breaking high-flying Hearts - and warned them they better not get big-headed and come a cropper against lowly Cowdenbeath.

The Diamonds pulled off one of the shocks of the CIS Cup second round by stunning Csaba Laszlo's Jambos at Tynecastle in a nerve-shredding penalty shootout.

As Black supervised training the morning after the night before, his mind was already focused on the future rather than Tyneastle heroics.

And his Airdire stars have been told they can forget about wallowing in the glory of humbling Hearts - if they want to stay in the team.

"It was a fantastic win and one which will boost the confidence of everyone at the club," admitted Black.

"It was thoroughly deserved and a credit to the players for working so hard to take an SPL side all the way and then to hold their nerve in the shootout.

"It can be frustrating being a boss, though, and I'm the first to admit that this new team we're buiulding is capable of two or three indifferent performances.

"We didn't play well against East Fife, struggled against Dumbarton and we've drawn Cowdenbeath in the next round of the Challenge Cup.

"I now worry about these boys going to Central Park a week on Sunday and thinking that after beating Hearts everything comes easy.

"I can assure them that if they think beating Hearts allows them to coast for four or five weeks and walk into the team for the likes of Cowdenbeath then they'll soon find themselves watching from the sidelines."

He added: "The First Division is the most competitive in the country and both ourselves and Morton have shown we can step up a level. The key is to try and do it week in week out."
