WEST HAM CHASE 10M ADRIANO

WEST HAM have made a £10 million bid to sign Adriano – but are not confident of netting the Inter Milan striker before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

Chief executive Scott Duxbury flew out to Milan on Tuesday to open negotiations with Milan officials and Adriano’s agent. The Hammers initially asked to take the Brazilian on loan, but Duxbury also discussed the possibility of signing Adriano on a permanent deal and told Milan the club would match their £10m valuation.

Duxbury reported back to chairman Eggert Magnusson yesterday, but a deal could be held up by a dispute between Adriano and Milan.

Boss Alan Curbishley is also waiting to hear whether his £5m move for Reading left-back Nicky Shorey will be successful before the deadline.

Reading are yet to respond to West Ham’s bid, even though Shorey has told boss Steve Coppell he would love to move to Upton Park.

Highly-rated youngster Giles Barnes is another  target for Curbishley, but it remains to be seen whether he is prepared to match Derby County’s £5m asking price.

Kieron Dyer is due to undergo the first part of surgery on his broken leg early next week.
